Description
A genuine ancient Chinese bronze Ge halberd blade made during the Shang Dynasty 1600-1046 B.C. measuring 18.155 cm long x 7.62 cm wide at the guard. Weight is 256 gr. A portion of the tang has broken off sometime in the past. Photos of "The History of Steel in Eastern Asia exhibit in the Macao Museum of Art Bronze to Steel Article" illustrate examples of my item and are comparable in size to this piece. The item is heavily corroded with "Bronze Disease" but is solid enough to handle. Any intaglio or relief engravings or inlays that may have been on this item are either under the mineralization or have long since corroded away. Most collectors are used to seeing Ge dagger axe examples from the Warring States period or later. This example is easily 1000 years older than those types and also that much more scarce. Any bronze weapons from the Shang are a rare commodity.
