Description
A rare knife used in Southern India by the Coog Tribe. In the Tamil language, pichangatti means "Hand Knife".The single edged blade is is straight, slightly upturned at the tip and with a small fuller. The blade has an inlayed gold pattern on one side. The hilt has a protuberant rounded pommel which is brass with a bas relief pattern. The grip is made of horn with w central mother of pearl dot surrounded by smaller dots of semi precious stones or possibly glass, The obverse side of the hilt is missing the mother of peral dot .
The blade has not been cleaned and has dark areas but no pitting is apparent.
